Nine Years ago Today…

Another early morning filled with nightmares and what comes along with them, lead by a bad migraine. HOWEVER…

Let me tell you a story…

Nine years ago today, during tropical storm Bill in the Panhandle of Florida, Craig had come home from the schoolhouse where he taught air traffic control and I was busy around the house doing the normal everyday stuff. I had been on the phone that morning, all morning, with both of our moms talking about wedding arrangements. After the phone calls were over and a lot of things just still very undecided, the kids were at their other parent’s homes for that part of summer so it was just the two of us. I stopped to think for a few minutes as I held the marriage license in my hand that Craig and I had already picked up, I had one more call to make. I called my 8 year old son to see where he stood on his thoughts about our big day yet to come which he was so excited that he would be the one carrying the rings. Out of the mouth of a babe my son quoted these words to me, “Mom you haven’t married him yet?” To say the least that is not what I expected to hear lol!

When my son and I finished talking I walked back through the house as Craig sat watching CSI and eating a bowl of icecream. I walked over to him and asked him if if had a few hours to spare. Craig looked at me and chuckled, “Well I sure think so, what’cha have in mind?”. I took a deep breath not knowing his response to what was coming and he finished his icecream and I took the bowl. I dropped the marriage license in his lap. He looked at me with a puzzled look on his face. “Let’s do it.”, I said to him. He smiled then we got dressed in jeans and white shirts, went to the garage and got into the corvette and backed out into the tropical storm to head to the courthouse. When we got there, there was a break in the storm so we ran in and up the stairs.

Ten minutes later I made the largest choice of my life…I said, “I Do!”

After that Craig and I went back to the car and looked at eachother and said, “So what do we do now?” LOL ๐Ÿ™‚ We thought the first thing to do is call our parents! Craig called his mom and said, “Hang on let me let you talk to your daughter-in-law.” Yes, she caught that really fast and was shocked! I did the same thing with my mom. They were all happy though. So then Craig and I headed to Wendy’s for lunch then went to the airport to check on the plane. Oh, now they were not happy…they were like extended family and wished we had told them so they could have gone with us, but that was okay too. ๐Ÿ™‚ Then we went back home and enjoyed the rest of the rainy day being lazy together.

And that’s when our married life began together…Thank you tropical storm Bill! LOL!! ๐Ÿ™‚

I made a life choice that day, even though we did not know at the time that PTSD is what was going on with Craig. For better or worse, in sickness or health, … and to this day that stands true!

To my dear husband Craig…I love you today just the same if not more then the first day I met you on that lake as a 16 year old girl when you were showing off and handed me a lilypad! ๐Ÿ˜‰ May we have many more anniversaries to come!!
